PCA Women's Committe
Our Purpose
Formed in 2007, the women’s committee was established to increase coordination and promote a cohesive and inclusive program for women’s racing for all categories in PA. Its goals are to 1) communicate with women racers; (2) increase women’s participation at races; (3) coordinate with PCA and race clubs/promoters to ensure equitable opportunities for women; (4) advocate for races that are both challenging and rewarding.
As an advocacy and outreach group, we wish to create an open, respectful and productive dialogue among women racers and the racing community. We value everyone’s experience and contribution.
Please contact us if you like to receive notices of women’s races and events at dhanchin@comcast.net.
Our Platform:
Increase the Number of Women Racing in Pennsylvania
- Provide notices of upcoming quality races and promote early registration.
- Offer a women’s racing clinic.
- Plan and implement a Women’s Series in PA.
- Determine, then advocate for, fair, equitable prize money for women’s races.
- Propose a formula to determine women’s race entry fees that are fair to the promoter, yet reasonable to the racer.
Advocate for Quality and Equitable Races
- Work with race promoters to ensure that their event offers, at minimum, a women’s Open race.
- Support the growth of entry-level women races by encouraging promoters to offer cat 4 women only races, while still running Women's 1,2,3 events.
- Encourage race promoters to break out results based on categories for Women’s Open and for Women’s 1/2/3 races.
- Continue to advocate for races to meet upgrade standards for all categories.
Encourage the PCA to Adopt Polices to Support Women’s Racing (proposals for 2008):
- In order for an event to become eligible for the PA BAR Series, PCA should require a women’s race to be offered.
- Expand PA BAR series competition to track Best All-Around-Rider for three categories: Women’s 1/2; Women’s 3; and Women’s 4.
- Propose an increase in PCA club membership dues by $10 a year. Earmark those funds to support women’s racing.
- Request and secure a grant allocation to plan and implement a women’s series in PA.
The PCA Women’s committee includes some 26 racers of all abilities, representing more than a dozen teams. If you would like to help, contact one of the coordinators, Dana Hanchin(Sturdy Girl Cycling) or Maria Collazo (Tri State Velo).
