After 2 weeks of laying low and taking it easy after philly, I headed out to the lemon hill crit and the cargas crit. These two weeks was the most meaningful rest that I have had this season. I think that all the rest that I was doing in May was not meaningful because I was too stressed about my one-year anniversary with the Trenton crash and going back to race that race. I was pretty flat from not training for 2 weeks, but it was fun to be at the local races again and talk to everyone that I don’t see very often. Lemon hill was a fun course, I always like racing in the city. The race ended up coming down to a field sprint and I got spanked and just finished in the field. After the race, Torrey Marks(the race winner), offered to coach me. It sounds like he has a really good training program going. So if anyone is interested in good results with very little on the bike work, you should talk to him. The next day was Cargas, and I felt much better. I have done this race a few times. It’s always on Father’s Day and there is always a good field and there is always a breakaway. I got into a move of 12 guys that lapped the field. I was actually trying to block the break a little bit so that we would not lap, because there were a couple good sprinters in there and if we lapped they would have their teammates to help lead them out. That plan did not work at all and the race came down to a field sprint again and I finished up in the top 10. But I felt way better than the day before so that was great.
Last weekend we raced the Rochester Twilight crit in NY and it was a great race. Rochester is the world headquarters of Kodak, one of our sponsors. So we got there on Friday and met lots of employees at their main offices. And then we did a group ride with about 50 employees. It is really cool to meet your sponsors and even better when they are so stoked to meet you and interested in what you do. The race on Sat. night was a cool course in the downtown area and there were about 10,000 people watching, including tons of Kodak supporters. About halfway through about 12 guys lapped the field and we had 3 guys in there. I spent the whole race covering attacks and then leading our lead out train from about 6 laps out. I blew up with one lap to go and we had just 3 guys left for the final lap lead out. They only managed 5th, so we were pretty disappointed, but we really rode well together as a team. So if we can just keep riding that well together, we will get some wins the second half of the year. The good news for me was that my I am really starting to feel back to normal. This race was the best my legs have felt since mid April. So that is a great sign for me.
Alright, I am sitting in Saratoga springs, NY (Home of Serotta) doing my laundry at a laundromat with Pete and Dan. There are some people in the parking lot hanging out in folding chairs watching a TV that is set up in the back of their Explorer…and we haven’t seen them get up to check their laundry once the whole time that we have been here. So we think that their just hanging out to watch the TV, so we may hang out a while here and watch some TV with them after our laundry is done. We are off to Fitchburg this week and then I am back home for a week before going to Superweek. Talk to you all later. And if you have any feedback for my diary or suggestions, be sure to email me.
Talk to you later,
Scott
