Video Camera Adjustments

  1. Turn power switch on rear of camera from OFF to CAMERA.
  2. Open the side LCD screen.
  3. VERY IMPORTANT Adjust H.S. SHUTTER (on upper, right side of camera) To 1/10,000 shutter speed. Any slower and the pictures may be blurry. There is no need to adjust the focus. The cyclists will be considered in "infinity" distance since they are more than 10 feet from camera.
  4. Place camera and tripod as high as possible since the most difficult aspect of picking results is the fact that riders put the numbers too high on their sides, up onto their backs.

Notes on Adjustments

  • Since the camera is so high it may be difficult to view the full width of the roadway. If this is the case you may need to move the tripod further back from the roadside. Also, adjust the zoom in/out on the top of the camera. Have a cyclist ride on both sides of the roadway and make certain the camera captures the full width of the roadway.
  • If it is very sunny and the race numbers are reflecting glare during playback then screw the lens filter onto the front of the camera.
  • The camera will send a video feed directly into the Tivo. The Tivo will store the images digitally There is no use of videotape in the camera and no playback via the camera. See the next section for video playback.

Tivo digital video record/playback

To view video feed

  1. Press the "Tivo" button on the remote, scroll down to "Watch Live TV", press "Select" or simply press the "Live TV" button on the remote. You should now see the live feed on the television screen.

Notes to Help with Playback

  • The Tivo system will automatically record video feed but only up to 30 minutes before it will "scroll off" the old data to conserve hard drive space. The hard drive will store almost 7 hours of programming, therefore press "record" on the remote control at the beginning of the day and allow it to continue to record. The red light on the front of the Tivo will be lit when the system is recording to the hard drive. To stop recording, press "record" again.
  • You can review the recorded video while the Tivo system continues to record more video. To review the recorded video, use the Play, FWD, Back, Slow, and Pause (yellow button in center) controls. To scan frame by frame (the Recording speed is 30 frames per second), pause the video then click or hold the FWD key. You can also back up frame by frame. To skip to real time, press the key just above the number "3" key.
  • If the recording is stopped it will be saved on the hard drive and can be accessed. To access saved recording press the "Tivo" button, then highlight "Now Showing" and press "select", and then choose from the list of recordings.
  • To make video review easier the video camera will time stamp the current time onto the images. Scanning to the correct point on the saved video will be easier if you write down the approximate finish times as they happen.
  • To calculate finish times for each rider, be certain to record the correct starting time. If possible have the officials synchronize their watches to the video camera.
